Patrick Sibale, a Computer Engineering graduate of Abdullah Gül University (AGU), shares how his Erasmus experiences shaped both his professional path and personal growth across Europe.

“My name is Patrick Sibale, a Computer Engineering graduate from AGU in 2021, originally from Malawi.

My Erasmus journey took me on two incredible experiences that were the most defining chapters of my student life. In 2017, I completed a six-month study exchange at the Bydgoszcz University of Science and Technology in Poland, which immersed me in a completely different academic environment and allowed me to travel and build friendships across Europe. A couple of years later, I went on to complete a 3.5-month Erasmus Traineeship at Robocraft in Coimbra, Portugal, where I worked in robotics. That experience pushed me technically in ways the classroom never could, and Portugal and Spain gave me some of my best travel memories.

Back home here in the UK, I work as a Configuration Analyst with NHS England, supporting three hospitals across the specialisms of Theatres, Critical Care, and Anaesthesia. My role involves the technical configuration and maintenance of clinical software systems, ensuring that sensitive patient data is accurately managed across highly specialised healthcare environments. Outside of work, I also dedicate time to volunteering with young people in my community, which I find equally rewarding.

My time at AGU was one of the best periods of my life. From the moment I stepped foot on campus, the International Office was incredibly helpful and made everything straightforward. I met some truly incredible people, students and lecturers alike, who will always hold a special place in my heart. I am deeply grateful to the university for the Erasmus opportunities and for everything in between.”
